Second Wedding Cake Ideas

There are all kinds of second wedding cake ideas that can get your creativity going. A second wedding is not much different from a first wedding. However many couples who are getting married for the second, third or fourth time choose to go more casual and less traditional. When choosing your cake there are many things to consider. First is the size of your wedding. Many second weddings are smaller than first ones. You might even choose to elope.


Eloping means you run off to wed without any guests. In the old days young couples who were not allowed to be together would elope in secret so they could marry. Today many couples elope because it is fun, convenient and often much cheaper than a traditional wedding. If you elope you will only need a cake big enough for two. Many hotels, inns, bed and breakfasts and various chapels offer wedding packages for eloping couples that include a heart shaped cake for two.

If you are having more guests at your wedding you may need something larger. Shop around at bakeries in your area to get an idea of what they have to offer. Most bakeries can show you color photographs of cakes so you can choose your favorite. Others can create custom cakes based on your exact specifications. You should also plan to sample some cake flavors before deciding on what you want. There are many different flavors including chocolate, vanilla, marble, lemon, carrot, red velvet and many more. Most wedding cake bakers will provide samples of various flavors so you can choose your favorite.

Second wedding cake ideas may include something that ties into your wedding theme. For example for a spring wedding your cake may be adorned with edible flowers. A Goth style wedding may feature black and red icing to match the color scheme. Some couples forgo the traditional cake and choose cupcakes instead. Cupcakes can be decorated any way you like and arranged on a tiered platter to resemble a wedding cake. Choosing the cake is one of the most enjoyable and delicious tasks for engaged couples.
