How To Elope

There are good reasons why some engaged couples would like to avoid the wedding procession and get married without much wedding bells. If the idea of eloping sounds romantic and appealing to you, read on. How to elope depends on your particular situation. The old-fashioned meaning of the word elope was used to describe a married woman who ran away with her lover. Today it is used to describe a couple who sneaks away to wed rather than having a traditional wedding. There are many reasons engaged couples decide to elope. They may be getting married against the advice of their families. Or, they might just want to skip the expensive and stressful experience of throwing a wedding and reception to please friends and family.

Whatever your preference, eloping can be romantic and straight forward if you handle in the appropriate way. The first step is to think twice. Do you really want to elope? Does the person you are planning to marry really want to elope? Some couples elope then hold a reception party or traditional wedding at a later date. Others elope on a spur of the moment decision and regret it later. The decision to elope not to be taken lightly and should only be done after a lengthly period of consideration and conversation with your partner.

Once you've made the decision you will need to decide when and where. Eloping can be as simple as a ten minute ceremony at a Justice of the Peace office. Or, it can be as elaborate as a fun-filled journey to Las Vegas, a popular destination for lovers planning to elope. In Vegas you will find 24-hour wedding chapels like the Little White Chapel. This particular chapel has married everyone from tourists to celebrities. Marriage is a big business in Vegas, almost as big as gambling.

The only thing left to do when planning how to elope is decide on the details. Such as what you are going to wear, if you want to take some snapshots, whether you are going on your honeymoon after the ceremony. The actual wedding is brief and takes only minutes. After you've eloped you will have the task of explaining to friends and family why you got married without inviting them. Of course you may have already told your loved ones of your plans. Each couple's situation is different when it comes to this type of quickie wedding.
